We are pleased to offer one of Kona's most famous and treasured products: 100% Kona Coffee!
Our farm has been able to produce more coffee than we can handle. So we would like to offer it to our ohana and friends. We feel it is some of the best Kona Coffee available and we want you to share it with us.
In the beginning we knew nothing about producing coffee. All we knew was our trees began with wonderful aromatic flowers that turned into these bright red colored beans. We had some idea that these beans would be the coffee that people around the world have fallen in love with.
Our wonderful friends have a coffee farm down the road from us and we asked how to produce coffee. Their aloha spirit was bright and they mentored us in how to produce coffee from bean to bag.
It all started with the picking of the beans from the trees. I got out there to pick the brightly red colored beans and realized that this is a lot more intense than I originally thought. I had a wonderful time picking these beans and thinking how wonderful the coffee would be once I was done. Boy, was I wrong. Plus my ipod went dead after a few hours of picking.
We realized that the next step was to remove the skins from the beans. I started to manually take the skins off of the beans and discovered that there were other farmers in Holualoa that could do this process by machine. So we put all the beans in a bucket and took them to one of the farmers to have the skins removed. Wow, soon to have my own coffee! Not a chance...
Once the beans had the skins removed they had to be washed and dried. We discovered that we needed to acquire a real coffee table. Not the one in your livingroom but a table that allowed the beans to dry for 7-10 days. Thank goodness they are not business days or I would surely have caffine withdrawals.
Our friends, by the way, have been right behind us in this entire process and advised us each and every step. Great people.
The next step was to take the dried beans and have them dry-milled and then roasted. Again we had to enlist the help of other coffee farmers that had the machines to remove some more shell around the bean and a coffee roaster.
We were getting closer and closer to the final product. I could hardly wait. But just when you thought it was ready to brew...we had to make another decision.
How did we want our roast? What temperture did we like it roasted at? Decisions, decisions.
We thought a dark roast would be nice since we like our coffee dark and it is hard to find a dark roast at the retail stores. So we had it roasted and bagged in 8 ounce coffee bags. Did it end here? Kind of.
The only problem was we needed a label. So we brewed some coffee, came up with some ideas, and created the label. Our label was named after our farm Kokoleka Lani Farms and is now available for purchase. Our friends coffee we are grateful to carry is Seven Stars Coffee located in Holualoa. Kokoleka Lani is available in dark roast and Seven Stars is available in a dark and medium roast. Kona Coffee is what we drink today.
Should you like to try these coffees we are offering them in 8 ounce bags through this website. We only have whole bean available and do not carry decaffinated.
We'd also like to extend some important additional information to our customers and friends regarding the Kona Coffee industry. When you buy Kona Coffee please make sure that it is 100% Kona. There are a lot of companies that are using the name Kona Coffee but that coffee contains a small percentage of Kona Coffee beans (usually labeled 10% Kona Coffee) and the majority of beans are of poor quality. Buy the best and treat yourself by buying 100% Kona. You may also like organic or peabury but again look for 100% Kona Coffee Beans. There are a lot of coffee farmers that have been certified by the Kona Coffee Council. You should look for the Kona Coffee Council label advising that the coffee contains 100% Kona Coffee Beans. You'll also be supporting the local farmers on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The coffee we are selling on this website is guaranteed 100% Kona Coffee and has the seal of approval from the Kona Coffee Council.
Enjoy as we do.
