This Kokoleka Lani Farms product contains 100% Estate Grown Cocoa grown right here on the Big Island of Hawaii. The only truly American cocoa available in its purest form - a cocoa bean. Each 4 oz bag contains the pure roasted cocoa beans and nothing more. The roasted bean is the actual ingredient that chocolate is made from. Once you add the sugars, and other flavorings you create chocolate. But we dont do that...We only have the pure cocoa bean. The darkest form of cocoa available. There are no preservatives, sugars, or flavors. We harvest the cacao (ca-cow) pod, scoop the cacao beans out and then allow them to ferment. The bean at this point is purple in color with a white skin. Once the fermentation process is complete, the bean is roasted and then packaged. The entire process is done here on the Big Island in a coffee processing facility. At this point the "cacao bean" becomes a "cocoa bean" and is a dark color and ready to eat. The average bean is about an inch long with a thin shell that can be eaten just like a peanut. Those with nut allergies need not worry. The cocoa bean is not a nut. The process is simple, very natural, and we see it from start to finish. We believe you will enjoy these beans with all kinds of culinary uses, grind them and put on ice cream, or just eat them right out of the bag. This form of cocoa is pure and tasty.
